The Trevors-Phalen Mass Centrosystemic Field [ˌtrɛv.ɒrz?ˌfeɪ.lɛn mæs ˌsɛn.troʊ.sɪs.tɛm.ɪk. fiːld] is a subionic resystemized quantum flux containment field-like matter-energy superparticle centrosystemic holder field. It is used commonly in the manufacture of starships, combs and overly long names.

The Trevors-Phalen Mass Centrosystemic Field was discovered jointly in 2035 by physicists Frederich Trevors and James Kilroy Phalen. They both were on the Isaacland Govermental Research Team, charged with analysing the data from the Isaacland Polaron Synchotron Quantum Field Realization System. Allegedly, Trevors and Phalen were chatting over lunch on the viability of linking a sandbox game to the Realization System's virtual processors. Their opinions differed on the result; Trevors believed that whatever was input into the sandbox would become realized in some way within the system, while Phalen thought that the sandbox would display the current workings of the system. The final result fulfilled neither physicist's expectations. Instead of a virtual-to-real creation effect or a full monitor of quantum workings, all the Realization System produced was a faintly green shimmering field. Disappointed, they were about to shut it off when an errant stream of "tasty" quarks that had deviated from its programmed path rammed into the field at quantum lightspeed. Instead of passing through, the quarks scattered as if they had hit a containment field. It was at this juncture that Trevors and Phalen discovered that the "sandbox field" (as they originally called it) could function as a low-cost containment and encapsulation field. Further investigation yielded what is now known as the Trevors-Phalen Equation:

This equation has been strongly scrutinized by critics of the theory. As Dr. Lance Faulkner, one of the staunch opponents of Trevors-Phalen Field Theory (as it is called):

"I'm afraid this equation simply does not make sense. Roots, arctans, and modulus are thrown about in a manner that reminds me of my three-year old nephew playing with blocks - maybe later on in life he'll figure out that triangular blocks stack on square ones and not the other way around, but for now the arrangement is incomprehensible."

The field and its variants is now widespread in its use over most of Entente Space.


The Trevors-Phalen Mass Centrosystemic Field is most commonly used to convert Realium into Realion in order to make the powerful alloy Fictionite, and during the First Galaxial Industrial Revolution was popular in the separation of Tardium from Kilonite. It was also briefly used to mine Plotdevicium from the moons of Planet 56, but too often the field would disintegrate the ores with its inherent Plotdevice radiation. It has been tried with some methods of food preparation with little success. However, tests with supercritical hydrogen thiomulitide have suceeded in synthesizing the much sought-after Combium in the form of iron-nickel tricombide. It was also discovered in 2046 that applying a Trevors-Phalen Mass Centrosystemic Field to a random number generator will automatically produce overly long names in binary format.


There are many variants of the field, the most notable being the Medaio Field.

Trevors-Phalen Mass Centrosystemic Field (TREV-orz FAY-len MASS SEN-tro-sis-tem-ick FEELED) - Discovered jointly in 2035 by physicists Frederich Trevors and James Kilroy Phalen. Used primarily to convert Realium to Realion, though it has had uses in other parts of the starship industry, mainly because of its containment field-like properties without many of the disadvantages, like "bleeding" or power loss through redirected magnetic forces. Although the centrosystemic field can be generated at relatively low-cost, the equipment required to do so is insanely expensive, though once the initial investment has been made, the machines will continue to operate for many years without much maintienence.
